A tricycle operator was crushed to death and two others critically injured in a multiple-vehicle accident at Ekoro Junction, Lagos, on Wednesday. The crash involved a fully loaded six-tyre trailer, a Honda Pilot, a Toyota Camry, and an unregistered tricycle.
According to LASTMA, the trailer suffered mechanical brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The trailer first crushed the tricycle, then collided with the Honda Pilot, vaulted over the median, and hit the Toyota Camry and nearby property.
Rescue teams arrived promptly, saving two trapped victims and evacuating all injured to General Hospital, Ile-Epo. Traffic was diverted during the operation.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki blamed the accident on poor vehicle maintenance and excessive speeding, urging drivers to conduct routine checks and obey speed limits.
