A banker, known as Mr. Victor, who worked for a well-known Nigerian bank, has tragically lost his life in Umuahia at the hands of suspected kidnappers. The incident occurred at the Isi Court junction in Old Umuahia while Mr. Victor was out shopping.
Reports indicate that he put up a struggle as the assailants attempted to force him into their vehicle. In a desperate bid to escape, Mr. Victor was shot by his attackers. Following the shooting, the kidnappers abandoned their vehicle and hijacked another car from a nearby individual, whom they also shot dead before fleeing the scene.
In a further act of violence, the suspected kidnappers shot and killed a tricycle operator in the nearby Ubakala area. These brutal attacks have sent shockwaves throughout the local community, leaving residents in a state of fear and disbelief.
The alarming developments were confirmed by Danladi Isa, the Commissioner of Police for Abia State, during a press conference held on Thursday in his office. He informed journalists that law enforcement officials are actively pursuing the suspects who fled the scene and assured the people of Abia that they will be apprehended and brought to justice. The Commissioner also emphasized that his team is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state, particularly in light of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2.
