Antony Scores Stunning Right-Footed Goal Against Former Teammate David De Gea in Europa Conference League Semi-Final

Real Betis winger Antony produced a sensational right-footed strike to help secure a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final. The goal came against none other than his former Manchester United teammate and current Fiorentina goalkeeper, David De Gea.

Antony, who joined Real Betis on loan from Manchester United in January, rifled home his sixth goal for the Spanish club, delivering a crucial win in Seville. The Brazilian winger, known for his dominant left foot, surprised everyone—including De Gea—with a powerful finish using his right.

“I trained with Antony a thousand times and he never scored with his right foot, not even once,” joked De Gea in a post-match interview with Spanish broadcaster Movistar. “I’m happy for him. He had a tough time at Manchester United, but now he’s showing his best form.”

Real Betis had taken an early lead through Abde Ezzalzouli, whose thunderous strike off the crossbar opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Antony doubled the advantage shortly after with his highlight-reel effort, before Fiorentina captain Luca Ranieri reduced the deficit with a precise low drive past Francisco Vieites.

Despite several late chances, including a missed header by Robin Gosens, Fiorentina couldn’t find an equaliser, ending their nine-game unbeaten run.

As Real Betis eye a place in the Conference League final, club legend Joaquin playfully suggested keeping Antony in Seville by any means necessary: “If he needs to be kidnapped to stay, I’ll provide the car!”

Real Betis will look to defend their lead in the second leg in Florence, while the winner is likely to face Chelsea, who cruised to a 4-1 win over Djurgarden in the other semi-final first leg.
