Arsenal Football Club has launched an investigation into alleged sexually inappropriate comments made by a supporter towards Liverpool defender Taylor Hinds during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final at Meadow Park.
Incident During Arsenal vs. Liverpool FA Cup Clash
Both Arsenal and Liverpool have confirmed that Hinds, 25, and a teammate reported the incident to match officials, leading to the ejection of the alleged perpetrator from the stadium.
Addressing the situation, Hinds stated:
“Yesterday’s game was intense, and emotions were high, but that does not give anyone the right to subject me to such behavior—especially while I was down with a head injury.
“Playing the sport I love should not come with the fear of such occurrences. Every young girl dreaming of becoming a footballer should feel safe and supported.”
Liverpool and Arsenal Condemn the Incident
Liverpool offered full support to Hinds, calling the incident “unacceptable.”
Hinds also shared her concerns for her family:
“It was difficult for my parents to learn what was shouted at their daughter during a football match. I appreciate my teammates, Liverpool FC, the match officials, and Arsenal for their swift and decisive actions.
“Together, we can continue improving the game for future generations.”
Arsenal reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy toward abuse and discrimination and assured that they stand with Hinds.
Match Outcome: Liverpool Secures Victory
Hinds, a former Arsenal youth player who joined Liverpool in 2020, played a key role in the match, which saw Liverpool win 1-0 after an own goal by Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Daphne van Domselaar, in the 78th minute.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of tackling abuse in women’s football, reinforcing the need for stronger measures to protect players on and off the pitch.
