Akwa United’s head coach, Mohammed Babaganaru, has emphasized that his team is in Minna with the sole objective of securing a victory over their hosts, Niger Tornadoes, in their upcoming Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match. Despite struggling to earn points on the road this season, the coach remains confident in his team’s ability to turn things around.
The Promise Keepers have yet to win a match away from home in the NPFL this season, having only managed a single point from their five away games so far. However, Babaganaru is determined to break this poor run, highlighting that the team’s recent 1-0 victory at home against Kwara United has provided a much-needed boost. “The home win against Kwara United has given us a lot of motivation, and we are eager to keep that momentum going into this weekend’s clash with Niger Tornadoes,” Babaganaru told the club’s media.
Babaganaru acknowledged that the team has only managed two wins since the start of the season, and he stressed the importance of consistency. “At this stage, it’s crucial for us to focus on winning matches and to improve our consistency, whether we are playing at home or away,” he said. The coach is aware of the competitive nature of the league, noting that many teams have managed to pick up points away from home, and believes that Akwa United is equally capable of achieving success on the road.
“We’ve had a very good week of preparation leading up to this match, and my players have shown tremendous commitment and determination,” Babaganaru added. With such strong preparation and the right mentality, he is hopeful that the team can achieve their first away win of the season.
In contrast, Niger Tornadoes have had a mixed record at home, securing just one win in their five matches, alongside three draws and one defeat. While both teams are eager to improve their form, Akwa United is determined to capitalize on the momentum from their recent home victory and finally claim their first away win of the season.
