Bailey Rice Determined to Cement First-Team Role at Rangers Amid Uncertainty

Bailey Rice, the 18-year-old midfielder, has expressed his determination to secure a regular spot in the Rangers first team, regardless of who takes over as manager next season.

After making his debut for the club against Livingston in February 2023, Rice’s progress has been gradual. In the 2023-24 season, he featured just twice as a late substitute, but has made nine appearances this term, with three starts.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation at Rangers, following Barry Ferguson’s interim appointment in February and an impending club takeover, Rice is focused on ensuring his place in the squad.

“You don’t want to just be a squad player or a bench player,” Rice stated ahead of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen. “You want to be playing for this club, which I’ve supported my whole life. It’s a dream every time I play, and hopefully I can take that into next season and see where it goes.”

Rice acknowledged the challenges of playing for a club as prestigious as Rangers, noting, “People can say it’s been slow, but at the end of the day, this is Rangers. It’s a lot harder and more demanding than any other club. I’ve been happy with how it’s been.”

Reflecting on his relationship with interim boss Barry Ferguson, Rice praised the manager for his directness and honesty. “He’s been brilliant, he’s been brutally honest, which I really like. He’s been picking apart my game to see what I can do better and what I’m doing well.”

As Rangers look to build for next season, Bailey Rice remains committed to proving his worth and securing his place in the starting XI.
