In a recent viral video, prominent music executive Banky W shared insights into Wizkid’s journey to stardom, revealing that the Afrobeats sensation began his career as a “studio rat.” Reflecting on Wizkid’s early days, Banky W described how the young artist spent countless hours in recording studios, unable to afford studio time but determined to make the most of every opportunity.
Banky W, instrumental in launching Wizkid’s career through his label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), recounted that Wizkid would linger in studios all day, hoping that engineers or producers would eventually allow him to record for just 15 or 30 minutes. This hustle became a defining aspect of Wizkid’s process.
According to Banky W, Wizkid’s persistence and eagerness to learn enabled him to develop an impressive skill set, making him one of the quickest songwriters Banky has ever encountered. “He would sit, listen, and start freestyling melodies, creating songs that would eventually captivate audiences worldwide,” Banky explained. This relentless work ethic, he added, was how Wizkid first earned the name “Wiz.”
