Bauchi Police Arrest Former Convict and Five Others, Seize Stolen Goods

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a former convict and five others for armed robbery and other offenses, recovering stolen items in the process.

According to the Command’s Spokesman, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the arrests were part of recent operations aimed at curbing criminal activities throughout the state.

The arrests were made by officers from the Yelwa Divisional Police Headquarters on November 17, 2024. Those detained include four teenagers—Musa Umar, Ibrahim Mohammed, Bilal Musa, and Idriss Jibrin, all aged 17—as well as a 40-year-old woman, Maryam Salisu.

Recovered stolen items include two laptops, four mobile phones, chargers, flashlights, bottles of palm oil, headphones, a power bank, and an MP3 player.

In a separate case, 22-year-old Adamu Mohammed, a security guard from the Government Reserve Area (GRA), was arrested for allegedly stealing an armoured cable from his workplace. He confessed to the theft and will face charges once investigations are complete.

The police also re-arrested ex-convict Jaafar Lawan, 34, for another robbery. Jaafar, who was previously convicted in 2023 for attacking and robbing a motorcycle rider, was allegedly involved in a similar crime after his release. He reportedly stopped the victim for a ride, applied a suspicious substance that left the victim unconscious, and the victim later woke up in the hospital three days later.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has instructed the police to strengthen security measures across Bauchi State to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season for all residents.
