“Blackout: Nigerian Disco Announces Another Collapse of National Power Grid”

A Nigerian electricity distribution company has confirmed that the national grid has collapsed for the 13th time in 2024.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) spokesperson, Friday Elijah, announced the disruption. According to Elijah, bulk power supply was lost at approximately 1:33 p.m. on December 11, 2024.

“The current outage affecting our franchise states is due to the loss of power supply from the national grid,” he said. “The grid collapsed at 13:33 today, resulting in the disruption of power across all our feeders.”

Elijah assured customers that efforts were underway to restore normal power supply once the national grid is back online.

Earlier reports indicated that large parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, were experiencing power outages following the collapse.

This marks the latest in a series of grid failures, with previous collapses occurring on November 5 and 7, 2024, as well as in October, when the entire country was plunged into darkness.
