The Boston Celtics bounced back in game three to cut their series deficit to 2-1 against the New York Knicks in the NBA Eastern Conference semi-finals.
After squandering 20-point leads in the third quarter during the first two games in Boston, the Celtics were determined to avoid another collapse. They dominated in Madison Square Garden, heading into halftime with a commanding 71-46 lead and never looked back, securing a crucial victory.
The Celtics showcased their deadly three-point shooting, hitting 50% from beyond the arc, a sharp contrast to their struggles in the opening games. Payton Pritchard led the charge with 23 points, while star Jayson Tatum contributed 22 points, helping the Celtics regain momentum in the series.
On the Knicks’ side, Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 27 points but admitted that the team didn’t approach the game with the right mindset after their 2-0 series lead. “I think it was just subconsciously being satisfied with being up 2-0,” said Brunson. “We need to have a better approach going forward.”
Game 4 will take place in New York on Monday as the Celtics look to even the series.
Timberwolves Take Series Lead Over Warriors After Game 3 Victory
In the Western Conference semi-finals, Minnesota Timberwolves claimed a 2-1 series lead over the Golden State Warriors after a thrilling 102-97 comeback win.
Anthony Edwards delivered a standout performance, scoring a game-high 36 points, including three crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The Timberwolves capitalized on their clutch time execution, avoiding turnovers and limiting the Warriors’ second-chance opportunities.
Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch praised his team’s effort, saying, “We’re winning the possession battle in clutch time now.” Meanwhile, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged his team’s strong defense but admitted the inability to contain Edwards in the fourth quarter was the difference.
With the win, the Timberwolves now have the chance to close out the series at home with a victory in game four on Monday.
