Chelsea are currently in discussions with the Premier League to negotiate a financial settlement regarding payments made during Roman Abramovich’s ownership.
The club prefers a financial settlement over facing a points deduction.
These undisclosed payments related to certain transfers were uncovered by Chelsea’s new owners during their takeover in 2022.
Upon discovery, the club promptly reported the issue to the Premier League, hoping their transparency will be favorable.
A decision from the negotiations is expected by the end of March.
Typically, secret payments tied to transfers result in severe sanctions, such as points deductions.
However, Chelsea maintains that any breaches of regulations occurred under the previous ownership, over a decade ago.
According to the UK Times, Chelsea is optimistic about reaching an agreement.
Previously, Chelsea agreed to an £8.6 million settlement with UEFA in July 2023 after submitting incomplete financial information.
