Ahead of his highly anticipated middleweight clash with Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Jr has revealed the personal pain he carries into the ring — including a fractured relationship with his father, Chris Eubank Sr, and the devastating loss of his younger brother.
The emotional revelations came during a tense press conference on Thursday, just days before the much-hyped Eubank vs Benn fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — a bout set against the backdrop of a 30-year-old family rivalry.
Eubank Jr, 35, reflected on the grief of losing his brother Sebastian, who passed away in 2021 at just 29 years old.
“I have a brother who is buried in the desert in Dubai — that is pain. His son is three years old and asks, ‘Why can’t I see my daddy? Why can’t he take me to school?’ That is pain,” said Eubank Jr.
Tensions have also escalated within his own family. His father, the legendary Chris Eubank Sr, has been absent from the fight build-up and has not spoken to his son in years.
“My own father, a man I idolised my entire life, doesn’t speak to me. He thinks I’m a disgrace,” Eubank Jr confessed.
Conor Benn vs Chris Eubank Jr: Legacy, Rivalry, and Redemption
This all-British grudge match mirrors the legendary feud between their fathers — Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, who fought to a draw in 1993 after Eubank Sr won their first bout in 1990. Now, their sons look to settle a new score in one of the most personal and heated rivalries in recent British boxing history.
At the press conference, Conor Benn, 28, promised to bring “pain” to Eubank Jr on Saturday night.
A long stare-down followed — although this time, there were no theatrics like February’s infamous egg-slapping incident.
Eubank Jr arrived late to the conference, openly mocked promoter Eddie Hearn, and accused Benn of “fleeing” the UK to train in Spain, dodging media scrutiny following a failed drugs test in 2022 — which postponed their original bout.
“He couldn’t handle the UK streets, people shouting ‘drug cheat’ and ‘egg jokes,’” Eubank Jr taunted.
Benn has always maintained his innocence and had his suspension lifted in November 2024 after a prolonged dispute with anti-doping authorities.
Fight Preview: Experience vs Momentum
Eubank Jr boasts a record of 34 wins and 3 losses, having fought at a significantly higher level throughout his career. Benn, undefeated in 23 professional fights, has spent most of his time two weight classes below middleweight.
Both fighters must weigh in on Friday and are restricted to gaining no more than 10lbs before a second weigh-in on Saturday morning.
Bookmakers currently favor Eubank Jr, but Benn’s team claims the 28-year-old is in peak condition. His father and trainer, Nigel Benn, says his son “bullied” sparring partners and even outperformed IBF world super-middleweight champion William Scull during training.
“This fight won’t go past four rounds,” Nigel Benn declared.
Whether this war of words is genuine or simply the usual pre-fight hype will be revealed under the lights on Saturday night.
