Daniel Cameron Announces U.S. Senate Run to Succeed Mitch McConnell

Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, a rising star in the Republican Party, has officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by longtime GOP leader Mitch McConnell.

Cameron, who made history as Kentucky’s first Black attorney general in 2019, brings strong name recognition and a proven statewide campaign presence after his 2023 gubernatorial bid.

Seen by many as McConnell’s political heir, Cameron launched his Senate campaign just hours after his mentor confirmed he would not seek reelection.

“Kentucky, it’s time for a new generation of leadership in the U.S. Senate,” Cameron declared on social media platform X. “Let’s do this.”

Cameron is expected to face competition in the Republican primary, with potential challengers including Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) and businessman Nate Morris. However, political analysts suggest Cameron enters the race as the frontrunner due to his broad support and high-profile presence in Kentucky politics.
