Donald Trump, the U.S. president-elect, has been sentenced to an unconditional discharge in the Hush-Money case.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been sentenced to an unconditional discharge.

The ruling, handed down by Justice Juan Merchan on Friday, means that Trump, despite being convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in May, will not face any penalties, including jail time or fines.

The case, which involved allegations of hush-money payments, has attracted significant attention due to its legal and political consequences. Sentencing had been postponed several times before today’s hearing.

“This court has determined that the only lawful sentence that permits entry of judgment or conviction without encroaching on the highest office in the land is an unconditional discharge,” Justice Merchan explained during the proceedings.

President-elect Trump, appearing virtually from Florida, reaffirmed his innocence, stating, “I am totally innocent.”

More details will follow.
