EPL: Owen highlights three Man Utd players Amorim would select for his team

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has identified three players he believes new manager Ruben Amorim will select when he takes charge of the club.

Amorim is set to take over as manager on November 11, replacing Erik ten Hag. Known for his preference for a 3-4-3 formation, Amorim has used this system throughout much of his managerial career.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Owen suggested that Amorim would implement this formation and choose Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, and Leny Yoro as his three defenders, citing their aggressive playing style.

“I think that’s a crucial position for Ruben Amorim,” Owen said. “Amorim is known for having his central defender step into midfield, so that player needs to be comfortable on the ball. De Ligt and Martinez are aggressive defenders who enjoy facing off against strikers, so the central defender needs to be strong with the ball, and Yoro fits that profile. If everyone is fit, I think that’s the back three Amorim would choose.”
