EPL: Paul Scholes says player Man Utd should sell, not Mainoo, calling him “scruffy”

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the club should sell Alejandro Garnacho instead of Kobbie Mainoo. Scholes criticized Garnacho, calling his play “scruffy” and highlighting his poor decision-making at times. He emphasized that United supporters shouldn’t be concerned if the club decided to part ways with the Argentine winger.

Garnacho has been linked with Napoli this January, with the Italian club reportedly eyeing him as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Mainoo, who is attracting interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich, could also be on the move due to Manchester United’s profit and sustainability rules. However, Scholes expressed disbelief at the thought of selling Mainoo, arguing that it would be “absolutely ridiculous” to part with a player who has been nurtured by the club for years.

“It would be absolutely ridiculous if the club had to sell him or Garnacho,” Scholes told TNT Sports. “All the hard work the club has put in since he was seven or eight years old, then to sell him because of some PSR rules, it’s ridiculous. He’s United’s brightest spark, the leading man who could be here for the next five to ten years.”

When asked if United might need to sell players to finance a rebuild under manager Ruben Amorim, Scholes responded: “I can see that with Garnacho. I think United could get better than him. Although he’s young and has potential, his technique can be scruffy at times, and his decision-making is sometimes really poor. I wouldn’t be concerned if they sold Garnacho, but Mainoo, I would be offended by that.”
