Gerwyn Price celebrates his victory at the Players Championship
Gerwyn Price made history as the first Welshman to become PDC World Champion in 2021.
Gerwyn Price secured his second Players Championship win of the 2025 season with an impressive 8-4 triumph over Ian White in the final. The victory, which took place at the Leicester Arena, saw Price overcome a series of challenges, including a third-round exit by rising star Luke Littler.
Price’s performance included a stunning 140 checkout in the fourth leg—the highest of the match—that gave him a 3-1 lead. Despite averaging 94.67 compared to White’s 96.99 and hitting fewer 180s (three to White’s six), Price’s consistency on the checkout proved pivotal. He finished with an impressive 34.8% checkout success rate, while White could only manage 28.6%.
“This win will give me a big boost for the Premier League next week,” Price said post-match. “I didn’t feel too great at the start of the day—some ups and downs—but I stuck with it. In the past, I might have let those games slip away. I’m glad to get this win.”
For Price, this victory marks his second Players Championship title of 2025, having previously won in Wigan last month.
Ian White’s Strong Run
Ian White, ranked 52nd in the PDC Order of Merit, reached his first professional tour final in five years, having knocked out world champion Luke Littler in the last 32. White, known as ‘Diamond’, had previously given Littler a scare in the World Championships earlier this year. The 54-year-old’s victory over Littler, in a thrilling 6-5 match, saw him advance after Littler missed a 102 checkout, allowing White to finish with double top and secure the win.
White continued his impressive run, overcoming Josh Rock and Cameron Menzies in the quarter-finals and semi-finals before ultimately falling to Price in the final.
Gary Anderson’s Nine-Dart Finish
In other notable moments, Gary Anderson produced a sensational nine-dart finish in his first-round match against Krzysztof Ratajski, but his run was cut short as he was eliminated in the last 32.
Looking Ahead
There are 34 Players Championship events scheduled throughout 2025, with the second part of the Leicester double-header taking place on Tuesday. The grand finale of the competition will be held in Minehead from November 21 to 23.
