The New York Giants have reportedly shifted their focus in the 2025 NFL Draft, settling on Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart as their top target, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.
Once believed to be high on Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, the Giants now appear to prefer Dart—whose stock has surged following a standout senior season.
Giants Prefer Dart Over Sanders, Per Report
Graziano reported Thursday on Get Up and later in an article on ESPN.com that head coach Brian Daboll has zeroed in on Dart as the preferred quarterback option over Sanders and others not named Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels:
“Much of the chatter I’ve heard in the past couple of days indicates a growing impression that Giants coach Brian Daboll prefers Dart over Sanders and the rest of the non-Ward passers on the board,” Graziano said. “I doubt they would take him at No. 3, but if they were to trade out of that spot, it’s possible they could pick him later in the round.”
Giants Eyeing Trade to Land Dart in Late First Round
With Dart unlikely to go as high as No. 3 overall, the Giants are exploring trade-down options that would allow them to move back into the first round later in the night—potentially using their second-round pick (No. 34 overall) as trade capital.
This strategy would let them acquire additional draft assets while still securing their top quarterback choice.
Jaxson Dart: A Rising Star in the 2025 NFL Draft
Jaxson Dart had an eye-catching 2024 season for Ole Miss, leading the SEC in passing yards with 4,279 yards and a 29-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He showcased both arm talent and maturity, drawing comparisons to other late risers in past drafts who found early NFL success.
The Giants could develop Dart behind veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, allowing time for a smooth transition into the starting role.
Giants Face Competition from Saints, Browns
New York isn’t the only team circling Dart. The New Orleans Saints are rumored to have strong interest and could take him as high as No. 9 overall, potentially forcing the Giants’ hand.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns hold the first pick of Round 2 (No. 33) and are also in the market for a developmental quarterback. Cleveland’s interest, coupled with multiple trade possibilities, could make Day 1 a race to grab Dart before he slips away.
