Governor Mbah praises the bravery and sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has praised the bravery and sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces and veterans, emphasizing that the nation owes them eternal gratitude.

During the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremonies in the state capital on Wednesday, Mbah acknowledged the crucial role the Armed Forces have played in maintaining peace and security in the state.

“Our debt of gratitude to you is eternal—it’s not just a feeling for one day. It is a debt we are committed to repaying, as your service has been a lifelong dedication to the nation,” Mbah stated.

He highlighted the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding the nation, often at great personal risk, with cenotaphs across the country serving as poignant reminders of the sacrifices made by personnel throughout history.

Mbah also paid tribute to the Nigerian Armed Forces’ global contributions, from the jungles of Burma and Congo to the deserts of South Sudan, and the conflict zones of Liberia and Sierra Leone. He praised their unwavering valor and their significant role in United Nations missions worldwide.

The governor called for continued support—both material and emotional—for the families of veterans and current service members.

“Our Armed Forces are composed of men and women of strength, but they are human and sometimes pay the ultimate price. Their families, left behind in grief, deserve our love, care, and empathy,” Mbah remarked. “We must ensure their families receive the support they need, as this is what true gratitude looks like.”

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces, stating that their sacrifices were a symbol of national unity and sovereignty. The wreaths laid in honor of fallen heroes, he emphasized, are not mere ceremonial gestures but a call to act in support of their families.

Barr. Emeka Igweshi, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Enugu State, echoed the need for collective support for veterans and their families, urging that it should not rest solely with the government.

The event, which featured a parade, wreath-laying ceremony, and the release of pigeons to symbolize lasting peace, was attended by key figures, including the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, and senior officials from various security agencies and government bodies.
