Football pundit Tim Sherwood has expressed strong support for Manchester United’s incoming manager, Ruben Amorim, suggesting that he should consider bringing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP as one of his first signings.
According to reports from JOINTEARN, Amorim is set to officially take over as Manchester United manager on November 11, following an announcement made by the club on Friday afternoon. Sherwood, who has a background as both a Premier League player and manager, highlighted the pressing need for a quality striker at Manchester United, stating that the current options available to the team simply aren’t sufficient.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Sherwood pointed out that current striker Joshua Zirkzee may need to leave Old Trafford after just a few months with the club, emphasizing the urgent need for a reliable center-forward. He remarked, “He (Amorim) needs to then decide what do I need in January. Does he bring in Marcus Edwards with him? That boy is a superstar. Do we bring Gyokeres? He’s absolutely on fire at the moment.”
Sherwood confidently suggested, “I would suggest 100 percent that boy comes in because they’re [United] starved of centre-forwards.” He acknowledged the presence of Hojlund and Zirkzee in the squad but pointed out that Zirkzee is not a traditional center-forward. “They’ve got to get him out before they can bring players in, and that’s the problem,” he explained.
Despite Sherwood’s enthusiasm for Gyokeres, it is understood that he is not currently on Manchester United’s radar as a transfer target.
