Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has urged newly recruited officers to remember that the primary purpose of carrying firearms is to protect lives and property, not for unprofessional conduct. He emphasized this point during his visit to the Police Training School (PTS) in Nekede, where he addressed over 480 recruits. CP Danjuma stressed the importance of integrity, professionalism, and public trust as core values.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, CP Danjuma encouraged the recruits to align their actions with the vision of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aiming to build a service-oriented police force that upholds the rule of law and nurtures positive relationships with the public.
The Police Commissioner also highlighted the responsible use of firearms, reminding the recruits that force should only be used when necessary and in accordance with Force Order 237, ensuring proportionality to the threat and prioritizing life protection.
Additionally, CP Danjuma inspected the training facilities to confirm they meet the standards for developing well-trained officers. He also awarded outstanding recruits for excellence in shooting exercises and distributed food items, including a cow and bags of rice, to celebrate the recruits’ yuletide season.
The Commissioner reviewed several community policing initiatives at the school, such as solar lights, a solar-powered borehole, and newly renovated classrooms, all part of projects initiated by SP Shaba Gboyako, Chief Security Officer to the State Governor. These improvements, including 26 solar lights, a solar-powered borehole, new classroom paint, and additional equipment, are designed to enhance the training environment.
According to ASP Okoye, the visit demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to developing officers who are both professionally skilled and ethically grounded, fostering public trust through service with integrity.
