“Insecurity: Lack of investment in security and armed forces is excessive – Senate”

On Monday, the Senate Committee on Defence emphasized that no amount of investment in Nigeria’s security and armed forces should be considered excessive, given the security challenges facing various regions of the country. Senator Ahmad Lawal, the Chairman of the committee, made this assertion while addressing journalists following an oversight visit to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna State.

Senator Lawal stressed that security is central to the stability and progress of the nation, stating that virtually every aspect of life in the country is deeply connected to a secure environment. He assured that the Senate remains committed to prioritizing the needs of the nation’s security and armed forces to ensure they receive the resources and support they need.

The senator highlighted that securing Nigeria is a fundamental prerequisite for achieving broader developmental goals, adding, “When we are able to secure our environment, then we can provide other things easily and comfortably.”

He also underscored the importance of the AFCSC in training and educating military personnel, noting that the institution plays a crucial role in developing officers at tactical, operational, and mid-level capacities to lead various military operations.
