On Friday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Rome confirmed the arrest of an Italian journalist, Cecilia Sala, who works for Il Foglio newspaper.

According to the ministry, Sala was in Iran conducting journalistic activities when she was detained by the police. The reasons for her arrest and the specific accusations against her remain unclear.

Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, is closely monitoring the situation, and efforts are underway to clarify the legal circumstances and assess Sala’s detention conditions.

Earlier on Friday, the Italian ambassador to Iran visited the detained journalist as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts.
