Israeli airstrikes target Yemen, resulting in six deaths.

Israeli airstrikes targeted Sanaa’s international airport and other sites in Yemen on Thursday, resulting in six deaths.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization (WHO) chief, who was present at the airport during the attack, confirmed that one of their crew members was injured. The Israeli military has yet to comment on whether they were aware of his presence at the time of the strike.

The airstrikes hit the airport, military facilities, and power stations in areas controlled by Houthi rebels, amid escalating tensions between Israel and the Houthis, who are part of Iran’s resistance alliance against Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that strikes would continue until their objectives were met, stating, “We are determined to cut this branch of terrorism from the Iranian axis of evil.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the escalation, calling the strikes on Sanaa airport alarming.

Tedros, who was in Yemen to secure the release of detained UN staff and assess the humanitarian situation, shared that he and his team were about to board their flight when the bombardment occurred. He reported that the air traffic control tower, departure lounge, and runway were damaged, adding that they would have to wait for repairs before they could leave.
