Katy Perry is opening up about her mental health and the challenges of facing online hate during her global Lifetimes Tour. In a heartfelt comment shared on a fan page Tuesday, the pop star reassured her fans that she’s “OK,” despite the backlash she’s received in recent weeks.
“I’m so grateful for you guys. We’re on this beautiful and wild journey together,” Perry wrote. “I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond.”
The comment came in response to a fan-led project that honored Perry with a Times Square billboard celebrating the launch of her Lifetimes Tour. The tribute featured the message: “Know that you are safe, seen, and celebrated,” a nod to the intense scrutiny Perry has faced — including criticism over her Blue Origin space mission and viral clips from her live shows.
Perry responded with grace, writing:
“Please know I am ok. I’ve done a lot of work around knowing who I am, what is real, and what is important to me. My therapist once told me, ‘No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe.’ That changed everything for me.”
She also reflected on how she copes with negativity online:
“When the online world tries to make me a human piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, because I know so many people are hurting. The internet is very much a dumping ground for the unhealed.”
Throughout her Lifetimes Tour, Perry has been forging intimate connections with her fans, often bringing them on stage to sing and share emotional moments. She said those moments remind her of what’s real:
“I find people to lock eyes with and sing to. I know we are healing each other in a small way… I’m not perfect, and I’ve actually removed that word from my vocabulary.”
Perry’s message came just days after a tearful performance in Mexico City, where she was seen crying on stage during her emotional rendition of the Teenage Dream deep cut, “Pearl.”
The U.S. leg of Katy Perry’s Lifetimes Tour begins on May 7 in Houston, and the pop icon is clearly channeling vulnerability into strength as she prepares to reconnect with more fans across the globe.
