The Kwara State Government has demoted a teacher accused of mistreating a youth corps member assigned to the Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin.
Hajia Fatimoh Hamzat Nike was downgraded by two grade levels, as announced in a joint statement from the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar.
The statement revealed that an investigative panel found Hajia Hamzat guilty of misconduct, including fighting while on duty, using foul language, showing insubordination, and disrespecting the national identity represented by the corps member’s uniform. These actions violated public service rules, leading to her demotion.
In addition to the demotion, the teacher will be transferred to another school and required to attend counseling sessions. The government emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The statement also conveyed the government’s regret over the incident and reassured the National Youth Service Corps that the actions of the teacher do not reflect the values of the state. It further urged teachers to adhere to proper conduct and standards of service, highlighting the government’s commitment to ongoing training on teaching ethics.
