Military Operation Fansan Yamma Delivers Devastating Blow to Turji’s Network
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have achieved a significant victory in their fight against banditry in the North West, eliminating 24 bandits, including seven high-ranking commanders linked to the infamous Bello Turji gang. The intensive week-long offensive culminated on January 22, 2025, in Gebe village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to reports from Zagazola Makama, the operation, led by Special Forces from the Nigerian Army 1 Brigade and the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Services, focused on dismantling bandit strongholds across Shinkafi and Isa LGAs. These areas have long been notorious for harboring criminal networks. The offensive employed a combination of ground troops, precision airstrikes, and intelligence-driven raids.
Among the seven prominent commanders neutralized were Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon Saniya (also known as Yafi Bahaushe). These individuals played key roles in coordinating attacks, managing logistics, and moving weapons for Turji’s network. Their elimination marks a critical disruption to the gang’s leadership and operations.
The operation also recovered weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles used for criminal activities. Sustained engagements included ambushes, search-and-destroy missions, and strategic airstrikes.
In recent months, the Nigerian Armed Forces have intensified efforts to combat escalating kidnappings, killings, and attacks across Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Birnin Kebbi. This latest success represents a turning point in the battle against banditry.
Turji’s Network in Disarray
The death of seven commanders and the dismantling of Turji’s Fakai base have left his operations severely weakened. Intelligence reports indicate Turji has fled to Maradun LGA, while his loyalists scramble to relocate injured fighters. The destruction of his operational hubs has undermined his control and left his network fragmented.
The surrender of key allies like Abu Radde and Umar Black in Katsina State highlights the ripple effect of the military’s intensified campaign. Turji’s reliance on a former rival, Jummo Smally, for refuge underscores his desperation and diminishing options.
Sustained Pressure for Long-Term Success
While Turji’s network is showing signs of collapse, complete eradication requires relentless military pressure. Surveillance
