Minnesota Timberwolves Eliminate Los Angeles Lakers from NBA Playoffs 2025

LeBron James’ Lakers Suffer First-Round Exit as Timberwolves Advance

The Minnesota Timberwolves vs Los Angeles Lakers showdown ended with the Timberwolves knocking the Lakers out of the NBA Playoffs 2025, clinching a 4-1 series victory with a 103-96 win in Game 5 at Crypto.com Arena.

Despite high hopes of matching the Boston Celtics’ record 18 NBA titles, the Los Angeles Lakers fell short for the second year in a row, exiting in the first round. A dominant performance by Rudy Gobert, who delivered 27 points and 24 rebounds, led the Timberwolves to a decisive win.

“It feels great,” Gobert said. “This team has faced adversity all season, and we’re playing with heart and unity when it matters most.”

For the Lakers, LeBron James contributed 22 points in what may be his final postseason appearance with the team. Luka Doncic added 28 points, and Rui Hachimura scored 23, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Minnesota’s resilience.

Timberwolves Advance to Western Conference Semi-Finals

With the win, the Timberwolves advance in the NBA Playoffs, where they will face either the Golden State Warriors or the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semi-finals.

The Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors series is still alive, thanks to a 131-116 victory for the Rockets in Game 5. Fred VanVleet led Houston with 26 points, followed by Amen Thompson (25) and Dillon Brooks (24).

Despite a 31-point deficit, the Warriors are still up 3-2 in the series. Coach Steve Kerr benched key starters early in the third quarter to preserve energy for Game 6.

“We lacked focus and defensive energy,” said Kerr. “Houston came out strong and deserved the win.”

Game 6 of Rockets vs Warriors takes place at 02:00 BST on Saturday at Chase Center in San Francisco.
