Mystics Rookie Georgia Amoore Out for 2025 WNBA Season Following ACL Surgery

The Washington Mystics suffered a major setback before the start of their 2025 WNBA campaign, announcing that rookie guard Georgia Amoore will miss the entire season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in her right knee.

🏥 Georgia Amoore ACL Injury Confirmed

On Friday, the Mystics confirmed that Georgia Amoore had successful ACL surgery and will not play during the 2025 WNBA season. The 24-year-old Australian tore her ACL during practice on April 30. At the time, the team indicated they were still evaluating treatment options. This latest update confirms her extended absence.

📝 Mystics Draft Pick Faces Major Setback

Selected sixth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Georgia Amoore was expected to be a core part of the Mystics’ highly touted rookie class, which also includes Sonia Citron (No. 3 pick) and Kiki Irafen (No. 4 pick). Her injury is a significant blow to Washington’s backcourt depth and rookie development this season.

🎓 College Career Highlights

Before going pro, Amoore finished her collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, where she transferred after four years at Virginia Tech. She averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists in her lone season with the Wildcats, leading them to the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

While at Virginia Tech, Amoore was a standout player, helping the Hokies reach the 2023 Final Four and earning All-ACC First Team honors three years in a row. She was named ACC Tournament MVP in 2023 and left college basketball as one of the most dynamic point guards in the country.

🌏 From Australia to the WNBA

Before her NCAA and WNBA career, Amoore developed her game in her home country, playing for the Ballarat Rush in Australia’s NBL1 South league. Her rise from international standout to a top-10 WNBA draft pick had generated excitement for her debut in Washington.

🏀 Mystics Begin 2025 Season Without Amoore

With Georgia Amoore out for the year, the Washington Mystics will now move forward relying more heavily on fellow rookies and veteran guards. They tip off the 2025 WNBA season against the Atlanta Dream on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.
