Netflix Fans Furious Over Cancelled Shows: A Thread of Outrage

Netflix fans are voicing their anger over the streamer’s history of show cancellations, with the frustration erupting on social media platforms like Reddit. The outcry began on May 8, 2025, with a Reddit thread titled, “I will never forgive you for this 💔,” where users shared the shows they are still upset about Netflix ending prematurely.

While many fans are upset about the cancellations of shows in 2025, the thread also highlights a long-standing resentment toward the streamer’s cancelation practices. Fans expressed their anger over unresolved storylines and the abrupt end of beloved series, which included some high-profile examples such as 1899, Gypsy, I Am Not Okay With This, and First Kill.

The Shows Fans Are Still Angry About

Among the shows mentioned, 1899 is one of the most cited. Despite positive reviews and being a top performer on the streamer’s charts, 1899 was canceled after its debut. “1899 had so much potential,” one user wrote, with another fan sharing, “It was a slow burner, so definitely not for everyone, but it was so unique, and I really wanted to see where it would go.”

Other shows like Mindhunter also sparked outrage. One Redditor lamented, “We lost Mindhunter but got a billion reality shows no one asked for,” while another added, “The cancellation of Mindhunter is just unforgivable.”

Why Does Netflix Cancel Shows?

In a 2023 interview, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that the decision to cancel a show is based on a combination of data and intuition, stating, “It’s 70 percent gut and 30 percent data.” Netflix has to consider both the cost of production and audience reception when deciding which shows to continue. Shows like 1899, despite debuting to positive reviews, faced high production costs, making their continuation less viable.

Fans Want Closure

One common theme in the thread was the desire for closure. “I wish when shows like this get canceled, the showrunners would just come out and tell us what the end game, twist, secret, mystery was,” a fan said, echoing the feelings of many who feel unsatisfied with shows left unfinished.

Other shows listed in the thread include Spinning Out, The Society, Black Summer, Dead Boy Detectives, Lockwood & Co., Santa Clarita Diet, Teenage Bounty Hunter, Archive 81, Inside Job, Marco Polo, Kaos, and The OA.
