The cast for the film adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel, Children of Blood and Bone, continues to expand with the addition of Nollywood stars and international talents. Newly announced cast members include Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr, veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, Pamilerin Ayodeji, Shamz Garuba, British-Nigerian basketball player Temi Fagbenle, Zackary Momoh, Kola Bodunde, and Saniyya Sidney.
These actors join an already impressive lineup led by South African actress Thuso Mbedu as Zélie, the story’s protagonist. Tosin Cole portrays her brother Tzain, while Amandla Stenberg and Damson Idris take on the roles of Princess Amari and Prince Inan. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays King Saran, with Academy Award winner Regina King as Queen Nehanda.
The supporting cast includes renowned stars such as Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, and Lashana Lynch. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King), the film brings to life the mythical kingdom of Orïsha, where magic was eradicated by King Saran during a brutal Raid. The narrative follows Zélie as she discovers a way to restore magic and embarks on a perilous journey alongside her brother Tzain and Princess Amari. Their quest is met with fierce opposition from Prince Inan, who is determined to stop them.
Filming is set to begin in South Africa, with a theatrical release scheduled for January 15, 2027. This adaptation promises to deliver a compelling mix of fantasy, cultural richness, and star power.
