The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has urged corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of the communities where they are posted to serve their country.
He also cautioned them against engaging in dangerous activities, such as night journeys, which could put their safety at risk.
Ahmed shared these remarks while addressing corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in Edo and Delta States.
He emphasized that the welfare and security of corps members are a top priority for the NYSC management, advising them to avoid situations that could endanger their well-being.
The Director-General also encouraged corps members to integrate into their host communities after leaving the orientation camp and actively contribute to national development.
He further urged them to initiate community development projects that would benefit their localities.
“Respect the culture and traditions of the areas where you are posted. Settle into your primary assignments promptly after leaving camp and serve diligently,” Ahmed advised.
He also warned them to steer clear of bad influences and behaviors that could jeopardize their future, reminding them that their parents have worked hard for their success.
In her report to the Director-General, NYSC Edo State Coordinator, Mrs. Frances Ben-Ushie, informed that 1,287 corps members—comprising 551 males and 736 females—had been integrated into various camp committees, making significant contributions to the success of the orientation course.
Similarly, Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, noted that all 1,577 corps members (738 males and 839 females) have shown strong commitment and discipline in their camp activities.
