The federal sex trafficking trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs has officially begun, with the newly empaneled jury now receiving their instructions from Judge Arun Subramanian. The opening statements are currently being delivered in Manhattan federal court.
Prosecution’s Opening Statement
Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson is presenting the opening statement for the prosecution, outlining the charges against the hip-hop mogul. She began by addressing the dual image of Combs—one that is familiar to the public and one that allegedly conceals a dark side.
“This is Sean Combs,” Johnson said, pointing to the defendant at the defense table. “To the public, he was Puff Daddy or Diddy. A cultural icon. A businessman. Larger than life. But there was another side to him. A side that ran a criminal enterprise.”
The prosecution is expected to detail the disturbing allegations, including claims that Combs coerced women into drug-fueled sex performances and used his business empire to cover up his actions. The trial will focus on the charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
