An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a truck driver named Adebayo Olayinka at the Ilesa Correctional Centre. This decision comes after Olayinka was accused of causing the death of one Adebayo Tajudeen through dangerous driving.
The magistrate presiding over the case, Dr. Olusegun Ayilara, issued the remand order on Thursday, emphasizing that the seriousness of the alleged offense warranted such a measure. He expressed his disapproval of the bail application put forth by the defendant’s attorney, Mr. Oladipupo Olatunbosun, citing the gravity of the situation. Consequently, the case has been adjourned to December 23 for further mention.
During the proceedings, Olayinka pleaded not guilty to the two charges brought against him: manslaughter and dangerous driving. The police prosecutor, ASP Akintunde Jacob, provided details of the incident, stating that the alleged offense occurred on October 19 at approximately 7:30 PM in the Old Garage area of Osogbo. He explained that Olayinka was driving a Howo Sino Truck, with the registration number SGB 961 XY, in a reckless manner that ultimately resulted in Tajudeen’s death.
Jacob pointed out that the actions of the defendant violated sections 18 and 27 of the Road Traffic Laws, Vol. 11, Cap 146, and 548 of the Laws of Osun 2002, reinforcing the legal basis for the charges against Olayinka.
