The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested eight suspects and recovered seven vehicles linked to ‘one chance’ robbery operations within a week.
Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, revealed the arrests and recoveries during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
In addition to the vehicles, authorities seized three Point of Sale (POS) machines, five laptops, three phones, 203 dollars, 109 phone memory cards, a blindfold, and a plier from the suspects.
Disu highlighted that these actions were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat “one chance” robbery in the FCT. The breakthroughs were made possible through extensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and targeted interventions.
A key finding during the operations was that many vehicles used by the criminals were tinted, which allowed them to conceal their activities and evade detection.
The command successfully dismantled major syndicates, arrested several suspects, and recovered vital evidence.
Among the arrested suspects were three individuals linked to a network operating from the Mararaba area in Nasarawa State. The suspects admitted their involvement in the syndicate, each playing specific roles in the crimes. One acted as a decoy to lure victims, another identified targets at crowded bus stops and markets, and the third focused on commuters during peak hours.
Recovered from the suspects were a Golf Three car (TRN 647 AA) and a Peugeot 406 (ABJ 145 LQ).
Disu stated that these arrests represent a significant step in the fight against organized crime and assured that efforts to capture the fleeing leader of the gang were ongoing.
