Police Officer Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed on Thursday the tragic death of a police officer in an accident involving a truck and two buses near Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, provided details of the incident. According to the report, emergency distress calls were made to the 767 and 112 toll-free numbers, prompting LASEMA to dispatch its response team from the Command Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

Upon arrival at the scene, it was determined that a truck, with the registration number FKJ 484 YA, was carrying goods and heading toward Arepo when it collided with two buses. One of the buses was identified with the registration number BWR 371 XC, while the second bus did not have a visible plate number. The investigation revealed that while the truck was in motion, it struck one of the buses, causing the driver to lose control. The truck swerved off the road and fell onto the second bus, which had been parked on the roadside.

A police officer, who was attached to the Mopol 20 Division and was riding his motorcycle back to the office, became trapped by the crash and was killed on the spot.

LASEMA’s response team used heavy-duty equipment to extricate the deceased, who was then bagged and transported to Ojodu Police Station for further processing. The truck involved in the accident was removed and taken to a lay-by, while the second bus was also recovered and towed to Ojodu Police Station for additional handling.
