Prince Harry is finally speaking out about the explosive allegations that falsely tied him to a lawsuit involving rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs—and how the media firestorm affected his wife, Meghan Markle, and their family.
Prince Harry Addresses Media Retaliation and “Vicious” Coverage
In newly released legal documents tied to his lawsuit against News Group Newspapers (NGN), Prince Harry, 39, claimed that a front-page story from The Sun alleging his involvement in a £24 million sex-trafficking lawsuit was motivated by revenge. The Duke of Sussex said this article, published in March 2024, was part of a larger pattern of “false and highly derogatory” reporting after he pursued legal action over unlawful information gathering.
“The Sun’s story caused immense damage to my mental health and that of my wife and children,” Harry stated in the filing.
The Controversial Front Page That Sparked Outrage
The Sun headline read:
“Harry named in P Diddy sex traffic case” — a shocking claim that was quickly debunked. While the article eventually clarified that Harry was not accused of any wrongdoing, the damaging headline had already circulated widely.
The story referenced legal filings suggesting Diddy used Prince Harry’s name to add “legitimacy” to parties where illegal activity allegedly occurred. However, Prince Harry’s only documented interaction with Combs was a brief meeting in 2007 at a memorial event for Princess Diana.
Meghan Markle Also Deeply Affected, Says Harry
In the court documents, Prince Harry emphasized the toll these stories took on Meghan Markle and their two children. The couple’s mental well-being was “seriously undermined,” he claimed, adding that the repeated media attacks were “plainly in retaliation” for his lawsuits against NGN.
“These defamatory stories weren’t just damaging—they contributed to the strain that forced me to step back from the royal family and relocate to North America,” he said.
NGN Apologized for Past Phone Hacking—But Defended This Story
As part of a January 2025 settlement, NGN admitted to unlawful intrusion into Harry’s private life, including phone hacking and the use of private investigators. However, the publisher defended the Diddy-related article, insisting it was “accurately reported” and justified because of Prince Harry’s public role.
Still, the lawsuit paints a picture of ongoing hostility between Prince Harry and the British tabloid press. He also accused The Sun of pushing damaging narratives portraying him as a “traitor,” a “liar,” and a man who had “betrayed” the royal family.
Fallout and Royal Family Tensions Continue
This latest revelation adds to a growing list of public and legal spats between Prince Harry and both the media and his own family. With King Charles battling cancer and rumors of tension between Prince William and Kate Middleton, Harry’s relationship with the royal family remains fragile.
