QPR Manager Marti Cifuentes Placed on Gardening Leave Amid West Brom Links

In the latest QPR manager news, Queens Park Rangers have placed head coach Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave just days before their final Championship fixture of the season against Sunderland.

The decision comes after a crushing 5-0 defeat to Burnley, which left QPR in 15th place in the Championship table. The club announced that assistant coaches Kevin Betsy and Xavi Calm will take over interim first-team duties ahead of Saturday’s match at the Stadium of Light (12:30 BST).

QPR chief executive Christian Nourry acknowledged fan frustrations, stating:

“This is naturally a disappointing situation for everyone concerned. I fully understand and appreciate supporters’ frustrations at this time. As a club, we are working to ensure this matter is resolved as swiftly as possible so we can start preparations in earnest for the future.”

The 42-year-old Marti Cifuentes, who joined QPR from Swedish club Hammarby in October 2023, was brought in when the team sat second from bottom. He successfully helped the club avoid relegation, finishing 18th last season.

Despite early promise, inconsistency has plagued QPR’s 2024–25 campaign. Speculation around Cifuentes’ future has intensified, with West Brom now reportedly interested in securing his services — fueling QPR West Brom rumors in recent days.

When asked about his future prior to the Burnley game, Cifuentes emphasized alignment with the club. After the match, he commented:

“I said before that as long as I’m wanted, I’m very happy.”

This managerial shake-up adds another twist to a turbulent season for QPR as they look toward rebuilding ahead of the next campaign.
