Delta Police Arrest Murder Suspect Over Death of 8-Year-Old Boy
The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Destiny Lawrence, in connection with the brutal murder of an eight-year-old boy, Progress Ifeanyi, in the Owa-Alero community.
The suspect is currently in police custody while efforts are underway to track down a fleeing native doctor, identified as Jonah, who allegedly hired the suspect to deliver the boy for a sum of ₦30,000.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the details in a statement sent to JOINTEARN.
According to Edafe, the tragic incident unfolded on November 23, 2024, when the father of the victim reported his son missing. The father stated that his son was last seen with Destiny Lawrence, a regular customer at their shop. When confronted, Lawrence denied any knowledge of the boy’s whereabouts.
Later that day, Progress Ifeanyi’s body was discovered in an uncompleted building, with some body parts reportedly missing.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the native doctor, Jonah, from Otolokpo community, had contracted him to find a young boy for ritual purposes. Lawrence admitted to luring the boy to the native doctor, who then took the victim to an uncompleted building and slit his throat.
SP Edafe confirmed that the suspect remains in custody while a manhunt for the native doctor continues.
