Sauce Gardner Takes Playful Shot at Saquon Barkley Over Trump Golf Outing Controversy

NEW YORK — New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner couldn’t resist poking a little fun at Saquon Barkley amid the controversy surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles running back’s golf outing with former President Donald Trump.

Barkley, who played a pivotal role in helping the Eagles secure their Super Bowl title last season after leaving the New York Giants in free agency, faced backlash after golfing and traveling with Trump over the weekend. The criticism quickly took off on social media, with many questioning Barkley’s decision to associate with the former president.

Sauce Gardner Joins the Conversation

Taking to social media, Gardner, a golf enthusiast himself, chimed in with a playful remark. On his post on X (formerly Twitter), the Jets cornerback joked, “My main thing is why didn’t y’all ask him how he played in the golf round first before the political opinions. He coulda PR’d out there on that course.” Gardner also added a grinning face with sweat emoji, making light of the situation.

The incident occurred after Barkley spent Sunday golfing at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, just one day before the Eagles’ visit to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.

Barkley Responds to Critics

Barkley quickly hit back at his critics, taking to social media to defend his actions. In his post on X, he wrote, “Lol some people are really upset cause I played golf and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT. Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago… and look forward to finishing my round with Trump! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have an amazing day.”

Barkley’s defense highlighted his respect for the office of the president, regardless of which political party holds it. He also referenced his previous golf outing with former President Barack Obama, showing that he has a history of engaging with leaders from both sides of the political spectrum.

Golf and Social Media Fun

Both Barkley and Gardner have developed a passion for golf in recent years. Barkley took up the sport in the summer of 2021, and Gardner, who began golfing last summer, has shared his golfing experiences online. In fact, Gardner posted several golf-related videos on his YouTube channel, including one where he attempted to break par at Trump National Doral.

Despite the political storm surrounding Barkley’s golf outing with Trump, it’s clear that the two athletes are enjoying their time on the golf course, using the sport to unwind and have some fun.
