Selena Gomez, the popular U.S. singer and actress, has responded to calls for her deportation following her emotional reaction to Trump’s ICE raids.
On Sunday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), along with other agencies, conducted nationwide raids. By Monday, ICE reported the apprehension of over 1,100 undocumented immigrants across the country.
In a now-deleted Instagram video, the 32-year-old singer, who has Mexican heritage, expressed her sympathy for those affected by the raids. With tears in her eyes, she said, “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something. I will try everything, I promise.”
In response, former U.S. Senate candidate Sam Parker called for Gomez’s deportation, criticizing her for allegedly prioritizing immigrants over America. He pointed out that she is a third-generation descendant of Mexican immigrants who received citizenship through the 1987 Amnesty program.
Gomez reacted to Parker’s comment with a humorous post on her Instagram story, writing, “Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat.”
