Sergio Perez In Talks for Formula 1 Return: Exploring Options for 2025 Season

Sergio Perez, the 35-year-old Mexican driver, has revealed he is in discussions with several Formula 1 teams about a potential return to the grid for the 2025 season. Perez, who left Red Bull after the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi, is actively considering his future in the sport following a challenging year.

Despite signing a new two-year contract with Red Bull in mid-2024, Perez had a difficult season. He failed to secure a victory and ended with just four podium finishes, marking his worst season since joining the team in 2021.

Perez commented on his talks with other teams, stating, “I’ve been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi. The season is underway, and more opportunities will likely emerge in the coming months. Once I have a clearer view of my options, I will make a decision.”

The experienced driver emphasized that he will only return to Formula 1 if the project makes sense and aligns with his career goals. “It’s important for me to return to a team where I can enjoy my time and contribute effectively,” Perez added.

In 2023, Perez finished second in the Drivers’ Championship behind his teammate Max Verstappen, but he described the season as “terrible” after failing to secure a win for the first time since 2019. His struggles were largely attributed to difficulties with Red Bull’s RB20 car.

Perez, who has previously driven for Sauber and McLaren, also discussed his challenging time with Red Bull. He explained, “Last year, I didn’t get the chance to demonstrate my full capabilities as a driver. Now, people are beginning to understand how tricky the car was to drive.”

Perez’s departure from Red Bull followed the promotion of Liam Lawson, who was replaced after just two races in the 2025 season by Yuki Tsunoda, following struggles with the car’s successor, the RB21.

As Perez explores his options, the F1 world eagerly awaits news of his next move and potential return to the sport.
