Seven individuals have been taken into custody in connection with an alleged assault on two officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA).

According to information gathered by JOINTEARN, the two officers, Oyedepo Samuel and Waheed Quadri, were reportedly attacked by a group of tricycle riders and other individuals in Ibadan. The assault occurred at the Water Corporation gate, where the officers were severely beaten with iron rods, stones, and sticks, resulting in significant injuries.

Sources reveal that the altercation began when the officers stopped a commercial tricycle that was blocking traffic on the road. Following this, a group of tricycle riders and hoodlums ambushed the officers, launching a violent attack on them.

The injured officers are currently receiving medical care at the State Clinic in the Secretariat, Ibadan.

In response to the attack, OYRTMA Chairman Adekoya Adesagba strongly condemned the assault. In a statement issued to DAILY POST on Thursday, Adesagba expressed his disappointment over the incident, stating that it was unfortunate that officers who work diligently to maintain order and safety on the roads are being subjected to violence and harm. He confirmed that seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
