At the 2025 TIME100 Gala, Simone Biles shared heartfelt thoughts about her marriage to NFL safety Jonathan Owens, ahead of their upcoming second wedding anniversary in May. The decorated gymnast, who was honored as one of the TIME100 Most Influential People of 2025, spoke with Access Hollywood about the joy she’s found in spending more time with her husband after their first year of marriage was marked by distance due to their demanding careers.
Reflecting on the challenges of their early marriage, Biles revealed, “Our first year of marriage, we were barely together,” referring to their long-distance relationship as both an Olympic gymnast and an NFL player. She went on to say, “We were kind of doing long distance, so now it’s just really spending that time with one another.”
As the couple approaches their second anniversary, Biles shared how special it’s been to have that time together. “Being together” has been the highlight of their marriage, especially now that their professional commitments have become more aligned, allowing for more quality time with each other.
Biles also discussed two major events she and Owens are looking forward to next month: the Kentucky Derby and the Met Gala. Both events are significant occasions where they will celebrate not only their love but also Biles’ incredible achievements and status in the sports and entertainment world.
Her reflections on marriage are a reminder of the balance she has worked hard to find between her career, public life, and personal happiness.
