Skype has announced it will be shutting down in May.

The internet calling and messaging service, owned by Microsoft, shared the news on X.

The announcement reads: “Starting in May 2025, Skype will no longer be available.

“In the coming days, you can use your Skype account to sign in to Microsoft Teams Free and stay connected with all your chats and contacts.

“Thank you for being part of Skype.”

Microsoft has not provided any immediate comment when approached by BBC News.
