So-Safe apprehends former convict and one other for suspected theft in Ogun

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) recently apprehended an ex-convict and another individual in connection with an alleged theft in the Idiroko border area of Ipokia Local Government Area (LGA) in the state.

The two suspects, identified as Abdullahi Idowu, aged 18, and Samson Ojo, aged 17, both residents of Idiroko, were arrested while in possession of two bags containing stolen generator engine parts.

Moruf Yusuf, the Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, confirmed the arrests in a statement to JOINTEARN on Tuesday. He explained that the suspects were detained around 10:30 pm on Sunday during a routine patrol operation carried out by the Special Squad in collaboration with the Idiroko Divisional Team of the So-Safe Corps. The operation was led by Chief Superintendent Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq.

Upon questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to stealing the generator engine parts from the Idiroko border area. They also admitted to having stolen a large battery on the previous Friday, which they sold to a scrap dealer.

Yusuf provided further details, stating, “The suspects were caught during a joint routine patrol by the Special Squad and the Idiroko Divisional Team of the Corps, led by Chief Superintendent Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq. Upon their arrest, they were found with two bags containing stolen generator engine parts.”

A preliminary investigation revealed that Abdullahi Idowu is an ex-convict who had previously served time in the Benin Republic. The suspects were then taken to the scene of the theft in Idiroko, where it was confirmed that the stolen parts belonged to a Customs office. Additional parts of the generator were discovered nearby, hidden in a bush.

Yusuf also mentioned that the suspects, along with the recovered stolen items, have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, in Idiroko for further investigation.
