The Sokoto State Government has officially tasked the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) with submitting its proposal for the new minimum wage. This announcement was made by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, who spoke to newsmen following a meeting with members of the union’s executive council.
Gobir emphasized that this step is crucial in facilitating the harmonization process within the state’s civil service, ensuring a smooth and effective implementation of the new wage structure. He further reiterated the government’s dedication to implementing the new minimum wage for its workforce, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the well-being of public servants in the state.
A statement detailing this development was issued by the Director of Press in the Deputy Governor’s office, Comrade Garba Mohammed, and was made available to journalists in Gusau. The statement highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing workers’ welfare through the prompt adoption of the new wage.
In response, the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul, called on civil servants to remain patient as the necessary arrangements for the implementation of the new minimum wage are being finalized. He reassured workers that the union would submit its proposed table for the new wage to the state government as soon as possible.
Jungul also took the opportunity to commend the state government for demonstrating sincere commitment to the implementation of the new salary scale, further solidifying the collaborative effort between the government and the labour union in ensuring the welfare of the state’s civil servants.
