Spyro claims Ubi Franklin scammed him out of $5k by using Davido’s name.

Singer Spyro has accused well-known music executive Ubi Franklin of scamming him out of $5,000.

In an interview on the Echoroom podcast, Spyro revealed that Franklin tricked him into performing at a birthday party in Ghana, claiming it was a request from Davido. He alleges that, despite agreeing to pay him $5,000 for the performance, Franklin refused to honor the payment afterward.

Expressing his frustration, Spyro shared, “It was painful to be taken advantage of,” even after Pastor Bolaji intervened.

Spyro explained, “Ubi Franklin was someone I respected until recently. He called me in the morning saying he was in Ghana for Iyanya’s birthday, and I agreed to come. Upon arrival at the airport, he mentioned there would be some performances at the party, but I initially declined. Thankfully, I had Swavey with me, and I told him I don’t perform without my manager. Ubi still tried to persuade me.”

He continued, “I met with Davido when we got there. At the time, I was about to release ‘Stand By You’. After leaving Davido’s place, we went to our apartment, and Ubi came to tell me that Davido wanted me to perform at the party, offering $5,000. I told him my standard fee was N20 million, and I couldn’t perform without my manager. Since we were supposed to meet Davido later for a promo, I asked Ubi to let me contact my manager.”

Spyro recounted, “When we arrived, Davido was coming off stage, and Ubi told me I was going on next. I couldn’t say no with so many dignitaries present. After performing, I asked Ubi for the payment, but he ignored me. Even when we got back to Lagos, he kept avoiding me, saying I shouldn’t contact Davido because he hadn’t asked for my performance. He also involved Pastor Bolaji.”

He concluded, “Ubi hasn’t contacted me since. It’s painful because he’s out there scamming people. I’m sharing this to warn other artists who might fall victim to him.”
