Suits LA, the highly anticipated spinoff of the beloved Suits series, has been abruptly canceled by NBC. The legal drama, which premiered with high expectations, will air its final episode on May 18, 2025, wrapping up its inaugural season.
NBC Cancels ‘Suits LA’ Ahead of Season One Finale
The cancellation of Suits LA comes as a surprise, especially given the success of its predecessor, Suits, which gained massive popularity following its 2023 Netflix revival. Despite strong ties to the Suits franchise, Suits LA failed to capture the same level of viewership, with NBC choosing to end the series after just 13 episodes.
Suits LA brought back fan favorites from the original series, including Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter and David Costabile as Daniel Hardman. The show also teased the return of Rick Hoffman as Louis Litt in the remaining episodes. However, the series primarily focused on a new set of lawyers, with Stephen Amell starring as entertainment lawyer Ted on the West Coast.
‘Suits LA’ Struggles to Match Success of Original Series
Following Suits‘ explosive success on Netflix in 2023, where it became a streaming phenomenon, creator Aaron Korsh expanded the franchise with Suits LA, setting the action in the entertainment capital of the world. However, despite the surge in Suits‘ popularity, the spinoff failed to resonate with audiences in the same way.
Suits originally aired from 2011-2019 on USA Network but experienced a second wind after being syndicated on Netflix, becoming the most-watched show of the summer in 2023. Suits was streamed for a record 58 billion minutes in 2023, topping shows like Ozark and dominating streaming charts for weeks. However, Suits LA did not replicate that success, as Netflix opted not to acquire the spinoff series.
NBC Cleans House: Multiple Cancellations Announced
Alongside the cancellation of Suits LA, NBC also announced the end of other shows, including Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, The Irrational, and Found. Each of these sitcoms ran for three seasons before being axed. NBC is making room for new programming, particularly as the network prepares for the return of NBA games this fall.
What’s Next for the ‘Suits’ Franchise?
While Suits LA will not continue, fans of the Suits universe can still look back at the original series and its vast catalog. The decision to end Suits LA might mark a pause for the franchise, but it doesn’t diminish the legacy of Suits and its lasting impact on both television and streaming platforms.
