Suspect in Fatal French Mosque Stabbing Surrenders to Italian Police

A suspect involved in the deadly stabbing at a mosque in southern France has turned himself in to Italian authorities, officials confirmed on Monday. The 21-year-old Frenchman, who had been the focus of an extensive police manhunt, voluntarily handed himself over at a police station in Pistoia, located in northern Italy, on Sunday night.

The incident occurred on Friday when the assailant entered a mosque in La Grand-Combe, a small town in southern France, and fatally stabbed a young Muslim worshipper approximately 50 times. Following the attack, the suspect filmed the victim while shouting derogatory remarks against Allah.

French authorities have not dismissed Islamophobia as a possible motive, and an investigating judge will soon work to determine the full reasons behind the attack, according to prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini, as reported by France Info.

The body of the victim was discovered by other mosque visitors the following morning. Authorities continue to investigate the incident while ensuring justice for the tragic loss of life.
